Accessory dwelling units provide the added space your home can't. These useful additions can serve as a home office, a private retreat for weekend guests, a safe place to live for an older loved one, or a rental space for passive income. We can convert your garage, build and design your ADU from the ground up, provide pre-designed plans, or create a custom design.

At ADUs by Avatar, we're dedicated to providing a process that's centered around our clients. Your vision, needs, budget, and timeline are our top priorities. Whether you come to use with your own design, entrust our designers to create your ideal custom plan, or opt for one of our pre-designed options, we will craft the ADU you and your family need with the features you want. 

Our Design-Build Process

Initial Consultation

Our process begins with a conversation. During your initial phone call, we'll get to know you, and learn about your project. We will also go over the financial aspects of your project so we tailor our design to your needs.

Project Proposal

After our conversation, we will deliver a proposal laying out our process and itemized costs for the entire project. This gives you a comprehensive view of anticipated all-inclusive ADU costs. We will then present the proposal on a Zoom call, and introduce you to our online portal.

Feasibility Study, Design, and Price Lock

The next step of the construction process is to analyze the site and construction variables to determine what can be built on the property. Are there any special requirements for your project? We want to assess the feasibility and all costs to build on your lot and produce construction plans that will meet your budget. The first step is to map existing utilities, assess electrical panel loads, and create a feasibility report . Using all of this information we can produce a more accurate estimate to match the project costs to your budget. During this process we will try to select and price as many finishes as possible and will create a detailed schedule for the project. We will create and provide a complete set of construction plans to submit.

Documents and Applications

Once you've approved your floor plan, elevations, and budget, we will produce a full set of architectural drawings along with the required calculations and reports for submission to obtain permits. These documents are also used for an HOA or construction loan if applicable.

Finish and Feature Selections 

We will guide you through the selection of every finish and feature to ensure your project is on time and within your budget. Choose your finishes or select your finishes a la carte.

Permitting, Revisions, and Scheduling

To ensure safety and adherence to regulations, our in-house permitting team will use your plans to obtain all necessary permits. We can now move on to creating your detailed construction schedule, which will be available to you in your online project portal.

Construction

Now it's time to bring your project to life! The construction of your project will follow the schedule in your project portal. Any communication about your project will take place in your portal, including updates about the progress of your project. Once your project is complete, we will conduct a thorough walk-through to ensure your project was completed to the letter of your plan. Congrats on your new ADU!
